Bernice A. Sheatler, 92, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville.
She was born July 19, 1925, in Danville, a daughter of the late William and Minnie (Mong) Barnhart. On Dec. 10, 1949, she married Vorie F. Sheater who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2015. His death broke a marital union of 65 years.
Bernice graduated from Danville High School in 1943
She was employed as an appointment secretary at Geisinger Medical Center and retired after 20 years of service.
She was a member of St. Paul's Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Danville.
Bernice cherished her family and will be remembered for her delicious home cooking and baking, especially the beautiful trays of Christmas cookies she made each year. She also enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Showalter and her husband Stephen, of Danville, and Cynthia K. Bishop, of Elysburg; two grandchildren, Stephanie Otts, Esquire and John Wesley Showalter, M.D., both of Mississippi; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Anna, John Andrew, Ava Joy and Adeline.
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters; and one son-in-law, Reynold J. "Renny" Bishop on May 1, 2013.
Friends will be received from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, followed by the funeral at 11:30, with Pastor Greg Molter officiating.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
