Diane J. McCarty, 78, of Gibson, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at home.
She was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Danville, Pa., a daughter of the late Arthur and the late Edith (Ploch) Krum. She married Franklin D. McCarty on Dec. 31, 1957, in Danville. He predeceased her on March 3, 1997.
She waitressed several years at the Athens restaurant in Corning then went to the Holiday Inn in Gang Mills where she worked as a hostess. After the Holiday Inn, Diane worked at Corning Community College for more than 20 years, retiring from the Nursing Building, a job that she liked very much.
In her younger years, Diane loved to bowl. She and her husband Frank were in mixed leagues for many years. She also bowled in the 600 Club, which she might have enjoyed more, with her women friends who she traveled with to tournaments around New York State.
Diane was an avid gardener, loving to work in her flower beds every spring and to watch the plants grow and bloom.
Diane was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, attending many music concerts, sporting events, graduations, and birthdays.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Phyllis Markowski) McCarty of Painted Post and Glen (Theresa) McCarty of Corning, grandchildren, Joseph, Peter, and Gabrielle McCarty, sisters, Grace Swope and Betty Reinaker, special family friends, Steve and Cindy Hand and their children Ellen, Tracey, and Steve, Debra (Hand) Brown, Dellis Hand and her son Mathew Rogers, John Hand (deceased) and Tori and their children, John Jr, Joshua, Nate, Mandy, Sabrina, and Cassie, and Chris and Ann Hand with their daughter Catrina, and their sons Dallas III, Christopher Jr., and Douglas. Along with her parents and husband, Diane was predeceased by her brother, Allen Krum.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12:00 pm (Noon) until 2:00 pm. A celebration of Diane's life will follow there at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Jeffery Becker officiating. The family has extended an invitation for all to gather at Calvary Baptist Church in Gibson for a meal and time of reflection following the service. Burial will take place at Coopers Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
