Eugene E. "Gene" Doran, 78, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at his residence in Danville.
Gene was born on Oct. 25, 1937, to Eugene S. and Kathyrn (Graham) Doran. He grew up in the Third Ward of Danville and graduated from Danville High School in 1955. He joined the Navy in 1955 and served as a machinist mate on the USS Otterstetter out of Bainbridge, Md. He returned to Danville in 1958, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Ulsh, who was caring for his mother at Geisinger Medical Center as a nursing student. They were married on Oct. 24, 1960.
He worked in various positions at TRW, PennDOT, and Grandview Nursing Home from which he retired. He was known for being able to "fix anything." He was a lifelong outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, boating, camping, waterskiing, gardening, wine making, and always joked about being an amateur weatherman. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danville.
He is survived by his wife of 55 1/2 years, Nancy; his two sons, Joseph and wife Dawn, of Washingtonville, Robert and wife Drena, of Lewisberry; and daughter, Sharon and husband Jason Kizis, of Danville. He loved his six grandchildren, Kahla, Sean, Cory and wife Destinee, Tyler Doran, Cody and Kyle Kizis, and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Freya Doran. Also surviving is his sister, Kate and husband Tom DeGuzis, of Danville.
Gene lived by the words of the song, "I Did It My Way."
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Hubert's Chapel in St. Joseph Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with his pastor, the Rev. James Lease officiating.
The family will provide flowers.
Donations may be made to the Montour Area Conservation Commission or the local Cancer Society in Gene's memory.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brady Funeral Home, Danville.
