Forrest Shoop Sr., 82, of Danville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, while under the care of the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville.
He was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Shamokin, a son of the late William Rick and Audrey Shoop and was later adopted and raised by his maternal aunt, Laura Ryan.
Forrest was a proud veteran of the Armed Forces, enlisting first in the Army and serving with the 101st Airborne active reserves, then, after the signing of the armistice ending hostilities in the Korean War, re-enlisting with the Air Force, serving as an M.P. After discharge, he attended Williamsport Area Technical College which led to a career with the FAA, from which he retired after a 30-year career.
Forrest was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Market Street, Danville, the American Legion Post 40, Danville, Loyal Order of Moose, BPOE Elks, Masonic Lodge 516, and Honor Guard.
In his spare time, Forrie, or "Butch" to many of his friends, greatly enjoyed socializing with friends and family, shooting pool, as well as swimming and scuba diving.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest Jr. and Debra, of Northumberland, Gary and his partner Yvette Beaumont, of Danville, and Jack and Maria, of Danville; five grandchildren, Nancy, Frank, Erica, Andrew, and Katherine; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Harold "Butch" Davis, of Danville.
In addition to his parents and aunt, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara Shoop.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Trevor Hahn officiating.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Danville.
