Frederick A. Cooke, 72, formerly of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Gino J. Merli Veteran's Center in Scranton.
He was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Danville, a son of the late Donald K. and Mary Ellen (Herman) Cooke.
Fred graduated from Middletown Area High School and served his country in the Army in Korea for two years.
Fred was employed in his earlier years at Wilson's Meat Packing in Harrisburg. He was then employed as a steelworker for Bethlehem Steel, from where he retired. He also worked for the Post Office in Harrisburg.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by one brother, Ralph L. Cooke, of Elizabethtown; a niece, Hope L. Cooke and a great-niece, Kaylee M. Phillips, both of Elizabethtown; as well as other nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas D. and John E. Cooke.
Relatives and friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, followed by the funeral at 1.
Burial will follow in Straub's Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites will accorded by American Legion Post 40, Danville.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 40, 425 Northumberland St., Danville PA 17821.
