Harry's Story

Text size

Harry F. Carodiskey Jr., 64, of Danville, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Harry lived his life to the fullest, believing that "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
He was born Sept. 1, 1953, in Danville, a son of the late Ella Louise (Becker) and Harry F. Carodiskey Sr.

Harry graduated from Danville Area High School where he participated in football, wrestling, cross country, band, and Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout. He remained a staunch supporter of the Boy Scouts his entire life. He attended Hudson Valley Nursing School and worked at Matewan State Hospital for the criminally insane. He then graduated from anesthesia school at Geisinger where he met his wife, Theresa (DeStefano) Carodiskey. They would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this coming September.

He worked as a nurse anesthetist at Geisinger Medical Center.

He was a longtime member of Shiloh United Church of Christ. He enjoyed reading about history, especially the Civil War, World War II, and American Indian civilization, and was a life long financial supporter of the Gettysburg War Monuments, Boy Scouts of America, NRA, and The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was a current member of the Danville Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Goodwill Fire Company.

Harry enjoyed coaching and attending his boys' sports activities. He was heavily involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts while his children were growing up. He instilled the joy of the outdoors, hunting, and shooting sports into both of his children. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, canoeing, listening to music, story telling, motorcycles, and driving fast. Anything corvette and corvette related brought him joy. He enjoyed mule deer, elk, and mountain lion hunts in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.

In addition to his wife, Theresa, he is survived by two sons, Harry F. Carodiskey, III and wife Misty of Danville, Dr. Marcus Carodiskey and wife Dr. Betsy Bement; grandchildren, Annabelle, Gabriella, Dayna, Elizabeth, and Cali; sister, Vonnie McAllister of Danville; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may visit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the Brady Funeral Home, 448 Church St. (formerly 320), Danville, where a Celebration of Harry's Life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, with his pastor, the Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
