Hazel Fern Martin, 81, of Danville, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Hazel Viola Fry.
Hazel received her bachelor's and her master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school for several years in the Wilkinsburg and Loyalsock School Districts.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville, and volunteered with the Geisinger Medical Center Auxiliary and the Good Samaritan Mission. She faithfully attended Silver Sneakers and enjoyed dinner meetings with the Danville/Tri-County After 5 Club.
Fern's greatest accomplishment in life was parenting and nurturing her four children. She was the picture of humility, warmth, love and sincerity. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family whom she adored.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jack Martin, of Lewisburg, Jim and Becky Martin, of State College, and David and Terri Martin, of Hummelstown; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Patrick O'Malley, of Ellicott City, Md.; 12 grandchildren, Nate, Claire, Olivia, Sophie, Stan, Maddie, Kyle, Nick, Catherine, Patrick, Caitlin, and Maureen; and one sister, Donna Lopes, of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Winifred.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Fern's life to be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 20 Brookside Drive, (off 642E), Danville, with the Rev. Dawes J. Dunham officiating.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville.
