Hilda Marie (Smith "Schmidt") Baylor, 88, formerly of 515 Bloom St., Danville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Jan. 27, 2017, at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Danville.
She was a lifelong resident of Danville, born on July 23, 1928, a daughter of the late Francis "Frank" Anthony and Blanche Mae (Shultz) Schmidt. She was married for 55 years to Hurley Charles Baylor who preceded her in death.
Hilda was a 1946 graduate of Danville High School. Hilda adored her children and devoted her life to her family. She operated "Mrs. Baylor's Playschool" for 37 years.
Hilda founded the square dance club, The Danjo Wheelers. She was active in the Danville Women's Club and was named Danville's Beta Sigma Phi Sorority's "First Lady of the Year" in 1990. She loved to garden, play pinochle, and bowled for more than 50 years.
Hilda is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane and John Foster, Debra K. and Jeffrey Koser, and Bonnie M. Baylor, all of Danville, and Cynthia L. Gates, of Bethel Park; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lawrence H. and Vicki Baylor, of Danville, Michael J. Baylor of Ohio, and Steven C. and Gabrielle Baylor, of Birdsboro; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Shultz and one sister-in-law, Betty Schmidt, both of Danville.
Hilda was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine A. Kreisher Updegrove; one brother, Carl A. Schmidt; one son-in-law, Theodore Gates; and one granddaughter, Sonya C. Shultz.
Friends will be received from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church, Danville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Ignatius Madumere, OP, Parochial Vicar as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
