Jack Merlin Gauger


Jack Merlin Gauger, of Watsontown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the age of 87, at the home of his daughter where he was currently residing.
He was born May 5, 1930, in Watsontown, a son of the late Homer C. and Elsie M. (Fox) Gauger. On April 1, 1952, he married the former Dorothy Pearl Tanner who preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2011, after celebrating 59 years of marriage.
Jack was a 1948 graduate of Watsontown High School. He served in the Army Signal Corp from 1953 to 1955, and was in the Reserves for six years.
He was employed at the Watsontown National Bank for 31 years where he earned several recognition awards and retired as vice president in 1992.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Watsontown, and had coached the Watsontown Area Little League for six years.
Jack enjoyed Steelers football and was an avid collector of Ertl die cast banks, football and baseball cards, coins, and numerous other items. Jack's hobbies also included creating handmade wood furniture for his children and grandchildren to enjoy.
Jack was the baby of the family of six children. He was preceded him in death by Albert R. Gauger, Emerson E. Gauger, Helen E. (Gauger) McClintock, Marie I. (Gauger) Wright, and Dorothy B. (Gauger) Moore.

Those left to celebrate his life are his children and their spouses, David W. and Holly Gauger, of Turbotville, Kevin R. Gauger, of Watsontown, Gary R. and Ann Gauger, of Watsonton, and Ellen K. Gauger-Strouse and David Strouse, of rural Danville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home and Cremation Services, PC, 124 Main St., Watsontown, followed by the funeral at 8, with the Rev. Brad Brought officiating.
Burial will be held privately in the Watsontown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Jack's memory be made to the EOS Therapeutic Riding Center, 288 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
