Jean E. Redka
She was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Danville, a daughter of the late Arthur and Rennay Cooke.
Jean was the youngest of five children who grew up on a family farm. She excelled in school, first in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Danville High School in 1940.
Jean married Wilson Redka on Oct. 23, 1943, by traveling to Florida where Wilson was stationed in the Army Corps. In October of 2018, they celebrated 75 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Patricia Souder and her husband Larry of Montrose, James Redka and his wife Margaret of Williamsport, and Joyce Miller and her husband Kenneth of Hamlin, N.Y. Her extended family includes 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Charles, Donald and Betty Cooke and Helen Hess.
Jean loved the beauty of God's creation shown in the flowers she grew and nature around her. She enjoyed reading and word games and led 4-H clubs. She enjoyed creating clothing professionally and for the family.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Danville until she moved to Williamsport in 1992. There she joined Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church where she served until her demise. She continued to share her love of sewing by making items for the local hospital and nursing homes and in her church sewing group.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jean's life at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church, 656 W. Creek Road, Cogan Station, with Pastor Jerry Fourroux officiating. A visitation will be held from 2 to 3:15 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be held privately in Straub's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Danville.
