John E. Buckley, Sr., 89, entered into eternal rest on Christmas evening, Dec. 25, 2016, with a bedside vigil of his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Lois Buckley. He had lived with them in Silver City, N.M., for the past five years.
John was one of seven siblings, born to the late Edward and Ethel (Lewis) Buckley on March 16, 1927.
He is survived by his son, John E. Buckley, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lois; brother, David Buckley, of Danville, Pa.; sister, Gloria Buckley Boyer, of Lewisburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, Ruby Buckley, of Danville; three grandchildren, Dawn Buckley, of Farmington, N.M.; Sean Buckley and his wife, Heather, of Hampton Va.; and Scott Buckley, Silver City, N.M.; and four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Braeden, Angie and Kaitlyn.
John was preceded in death by his beloved, devoted wife and best friend, Josie Buckley. They married while he served in the Navy at the end of World War II.
After the navy, he attended vocational schools to learn plumbing, metal working, and carpentry. Woodworking became one of his life long passions. Both he and Josie often worked two jobs, and, because of their frugal and thrifty financial practices were able to purchase their home on Honeymoon Street; and, to provide their son, John, a college education. John worked most of his adult life and retired from Kennedy Van Saun in Danville.
John and Josie enjoyed traveling together. Their marriage was the epitome of not only true love but a deep friendship. They were seldom apart even for short periods, and now they will be together for eternity.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Shiloh Church of Christ, Danville. Details will be provided at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to Shiloh Church of Christ, Danville, PA 17821.
