Joseph M. Mucciolo Sr.
He was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Old Forge, a son of the late Giuseppe and Lucia (Passarella) Mucciolo,
Joe graduated from Old Forge High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951, serving until 1955. Following his time in the service, Joe attended the University of Scranton where he obtained a bachelors of arts degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he was employed as an auditor at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue for 27 years.
Joe and his wife, Theresa (Lynch) Mucciolo, opened The Cardinal Inn Restaurant in Spring Brook in 1970. For more than 35 years, The Cardinal Inn served pizza and homemade Italian pastas and other dishes to the local community. Joe's love of people and serving others through food led him and Theresa to open a second location, Mucciolo's, in Old Forge. Joe truly enjoyed talking with and getting to know his customers. His easygoing personality, warm smile and big heart were loved by all.
As a prominent small business owner, Joe readily supported local community organizations, including the Spring Brook Fire House, North Pocono High School, Moscow Public Library and The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena. He was also a member of the American Legion for 50 years.
Joe will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Theresa, and their two children, daughter, Mara and husband Ron Gecan of Vienna, Va., and son, Dr. Joseph and wife Dr. Lisa Licata Mucciolo, of Danville. Joe was the proud grandfather of eight beautiful grandchildren, Lucas, Gianna and Elena Gecan and Sophia, Madeline, Joseph, Lucia and Annabella Mucciolo. He is survived by brother Anthony and wife Claudia, and brother John, all of Old Forge, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gino and Louis, and his sister-in-laws, Theresa and Eleanor.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC, 3 First St., Spring Brook Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena, 220 Church St., Moscow to be celebrated by Father Robert J.
