Joseph Leonard Nutaitis, 74, of Briar Creek Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his residence with his family present after battling melanoma for the past eight months.
He was born Nov. 4, 1943, in Berwick, a son of the late Fred and Theresa (Nespoli) Nutaitis.
A graduate of Berwick High School, Joe continued his education at Bloomsburg State College, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education.
Joe first taught at Lower Dauphin High School in Harrisburg. His last teaching position was at Columbia Montour Vo-Tech where he taught history for 30 years before retiring.
He was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church, Berwick.
Joe's interests included antique cars and guns, history and politics. A loving husband, father and friend, he will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, the former Joselle Volpicelli; two daughters, Lauren Nutaits at home and Theresa Bogart of Berwick; sons, Rashko of Berwick and Anthony at home; and grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, and Christopher.
Joe was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara at birth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick, with Father Francis Tamburro as celebrant. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
