Kathleen S. Skiendzielewski
Kathleen S. "Kathy" Skiendzielewski, 72, of Sunbury, formerly of Danville, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2019, at the Nursing & Rehabilitation at The Mansion where she had been a resident for the past six years.

She was born Aug. 21, 1946, in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late George H. and Kathryn (Mattern) Long. On July 9, 1996, she married John J. Skiendzielewski who survives.

Kathy grew up in Numidia and was a graduate of Southern Columbia High School on May 28, 1964. She completed her nursing certification on Sept. 16, 1967, from the Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing.

She gained employment at Geisinger Medical Center as an emergency room registered nurse. Kathy was the recipient of the Martha Everitt Award for Excellence in Emergency Nursing Care, later renamed the Kathy Award in her honor. After 35 years of dedicated service Kathy retired, but continued as a volunteer patient liaison.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Danville and the Geisinger School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Kathy greatly enjoyed cross stitch, crocheting, yard sales, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Some of her most favorite times were spent traveling with her family, to Marco Island with husband John, and to Tulsa, Okla. with daughter Kelly.

In addition to her husband of 22 years, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly S. and Matthew T. Fox of Danielsville; one son, Nathaniel S. Holdren of Livingston, Mont.; stepdaughter, Jennifer M. Skiendzielewski and partner Teri Charles of Boulder, Colo.; stepson, John Andrew Skiendzielewski and wife Laural of South Lake, Texas; grandson, Abbade J. "AJ" Fox of Danielsville; and stepgrandchildren, Libby and Landon Skiendzielewski of South Lake, Texas; and a cousin, Molly Ann Criswell and husband Bill of Mifflinburg, who was more like a sister.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Long.

A greeting for friends and family will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Stone Pine Ballroom #1 at The Pine Barn Inn, 43 Pine Barn Place, Danville, where services will follow from 2 to 3 p.m.
