Lois S. Gass, 90, of Danville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at Grandview Nursing Center, Danville.

She was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Danville, a daughter of the late Roy and Olive (Madden) Gass

She graduated from Danville High School in 1946 and received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Mansfield State Teacher's College in 1950.

Lois was employed as a home economics teacher at Line Mountain School District for 38 years, retiring in 1988.

She was an active member of Shiloh United Church of Christ where she served in numerous ways wherever there was a need and on numerous committees. Her other memberships included the Danville Garden Club, Montour County Historical Society, National Retired Teacher Association and the PSEA. Lois also served as the majority inspector of voting for Mahoning Township and for many years as a Geisinger Hospital volunteer. She thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the 5 Friends Weekly Craft Group for many years.

Lois was an avid photographer and loved taking pictures of many family events and church functions. She loved to travel to Europe, including China, Hong Kong and Israel. She also did an extensive genealogy of her family and was well known for all the amount of information she knew and shared with her family. Lois will be remembered by many for her selfless heart caring for her mother all of her adult life and working with Habitat for Humanity in the Southern States. Her love for Missions work was evident in her church, her community and in some Western states on a Indian Reservation along with with her college alumni building a community hall. Because of her involvement with so many selfless acts of kindness, she was honored at Bloomsburg University as "Woman of the Year".

Above all, Lois will be remembered by her family, students and all who knew her for her beautiful spirit, ever present smile and her kind and industrious heart for people, especially her family whom she adored.

She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Barnhart and Carol Bell of Danville; as well as two nephews, Howard Barnhart III and Rolland Bell; and four nieces, Letitia Fest, Carolynn Bell-Michel, Susan Hess and Gloria Olson.

She was preceded in death by one nephew, Roy Barnhart; one great-nephew, Roy Barnhart Jr.; and one great-niece, Gina Barnhart.

A celebration of Lois's life at Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, will be announced in the Spring.
