Margaret's Story

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Kmiecinski, 86, passed away at her residence in Bonita Springs, Fla., on March 12, 2017.
She was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Danville, Pa., a daughter of the late Atwood C. and Margaret (Scott) Rhoades. She married Carl Kmiecinski on April 11, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They lived at 208 Center St. since Labor Day in 1951.

Peggy attended St. Joseph School and St. Cyril Academy.
She was a 4-H leader for 25 years, a Girl Scout leader for 25 years, and led two troops at the same time, St. Joseph Church and Grove Presbyterian. She took the Cadet Scouts to the National Jamboree in Washington, D.C. in 1970. She took 35 Cadet Scouts from both troops by bus on a 15-day trip to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming in 1972. Any girl could go, regardless of ability to pay, as the troop sold hoagies to fund their adventures. Peggy was also the president of the National Council of Catholic Women at both the parish and deanery levels, as well as a member of Happy Joe's. She has been a winter visitor or "snowbird" to Florida since 1982.
Her winter home is in Bonita Springs, where she lived with her husband Carl, and daughter, Ann Louise. Over the years she traveled to all 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Ireland, nine countries in Europe, and spent a month in Portugal and Spain for her 50th anniversary.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; two daughters and son-in-law, Ann Louise Kmiecinski, of Danville, and Mary Kay and Barry Loreman, of Mechanicsburg; one granddaughter, Sarah Loreman Snyder and husband, Tim, of Carlisle; four great-grandsons, Tyler, Sean, Jason, Sam; and a nephew, Michael Rhoades, of Pittsburgh.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Hubert's Chapel in St. Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville,where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11, with her pastor, the Rev. James Lease as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Danville.
