Thomas F. Sharkey, 92, of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Laurence and Annabella (Stafford) Sharkey. He married Margaret M. "Peg" Mitchell and they were lovingly and happily married for 66 years.
Thomas graduated from St. Francis College and earned his M.B.A. from New York University. He proudly served in the Naval Air Force from 1943-1946, and he flew in a torpedo bomber.
He worked for Nabisco, the Department of Justice, and for 26 years, the NYC Board of Education Budget Department.
He was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Joseph Church.
Thomas was a man of great joy and laughter, who always carried a song in his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Sharkey; sons, Thomas Sharkey Jr. and wife, Lucy, of Ohio, Peter Sharkey, of New Jersey, and Michael Sharkey, of Virginia; a daughter, Margaret Petry and husband, Tom, of Texas; five grandchildren, Stephen, Brianne, Kayla, Angela, Benjamin; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Laurence Sharkey, Patrick Sharkey; and a sister: Mary Ward.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Maria Joseph Manor, 875 Montour Blvd., Danville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1, with the Rev. John Cyriac as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, in Elysburg.
