William's Story

William T. "Bill" McKenna, 86, of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Maria Hall, Danville.

He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Danville, a son of the late James and Elmira McKenna. On Sept. 26, 1953, Bill married his loving wife of 62 years, the former Dolores P. Jordan.

Bill was a 1949 graduate of Danville Area High School, where he was an outstanding football player. Bill also enjoyed playing intramural basketball and was a member of the Letterman Club. He served in the Navy during the Korean War where he received the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Medal, and the Korean Medal.
He worked for the Danville Borough as a police officer for two years and then transferred to the Danville Borough Water Treatment Plant, from which he retired in 2001.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Elks.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved going out to dinner with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends and co-workers from the Danville Borough.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Catherine McKenna; grandchildren, Samantha J. McKenna and William C. McKenna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved son, William J. McKenna; and his brother, James McKenna.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Friday in St. Hubert Chapel at St. Joseph Church, Danville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon with the Rev. Michael M. Laicha, of Saint Cecilia Parish, Lebanon, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, 599 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
