William I. Watkins, 83, a guest at Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Emmanuel.
He was born April 5, 1933, a son of late Mary Jane Watkins Kline. He was married for 62 years to the former Nancy Kessler who survives.
After finishing his education from the Danville area schools, he enlisted in the Army.
After his honorable discharge, he began a career that lasted for more than 35 years, working as a baker and cook at the Danville State Hospital.
William enjoyed camping and hunting. He always had a special place in his heart for his beloved Bassett Hounds. His true love was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Vankirk, of Riverside; one son, Steven Watkins, of Montoursville; seven grandchildren, Shelby, Daryl, Jenny, Tracy, Stefany, Amie and Allison; 14 great-grandchildern; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Linda Kline, of Danville; and two sisters, Mildred Fausnaught, of Danville and Virginia Kline, of Selinsgrove.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Allen Watkins in 1981; and one daughter-in-law, Debra Watkins in 2013.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, followed by the funeral at 11, with his niece, Melissa Swartzlander officiating.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
