Beatrice's Story

Beatrice E. DeSantis, 76, formerly of 717 E. Market Street, Danville, passed on to her eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 4:50 p.m. at her residence in Mahoning Township following several years of failing health.

She was born June 20, 1940, at George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital, a daughter and the only child born to Merle D. Snyder and Sophia (Ruckle) Snyder. Bea was married to the late Alfred D. DeSantis Jr. on Aug. 14, 1965, by the Rev. Edmund Minnich at Trinity United Methodist Church, Danville. Al preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2014.

She was a lifelong Danville resident, completing her education by graduating from Danville High School with the class of 1959, the first class to graduate from the "new high school" on Northumberland Road.

Her first place of employment was in the Medical Records Department at Geisinger. She then went on to work for and retire from Danville CATV office after 49 years of service.

During Bea's lifetime, she was a devoted volunteer with the Eastern Star and White Shrine where she achieved the position of Worthy Mother several times. She traveled extensively throughout the country making friends, earning their respect at many conferences that she attended while active in her leadership role.

She was a quiet, unassuming person who had kind words for everyone. Bea had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats, having shared her home with several most of her life. She was a master at all needle crafts, as well as being an avid reader.

Bea is survived by her sisters-in-law, Bettyann DeSantis Huber and her husband Charles, of Danville, Carol DeSantis Lewis, of Danville, Gloria DeSantis Young, and Barbara DeSantis White and her husband Robert, of Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers in-law, Dennis Lewis, in Sept. 2014, and Keith A. Young, in Dec. 2014.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 West Mahoning St., Danville.

A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Danville.
