Cynthia L. "Cindy" Gearhart, 65, of Mahoning Township, passed away at her home on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
She was born March 7, 1951, in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Dorothy K. Klinger and Jacob Gearhart.
Cindy was a 1969 graduate of Danville High School and was the valedictorian. She later graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1973, Magna Cum Laude.
She taught elementary school in Danville for 36 years, retiring in 2009.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church.
Cindy was an avid Penn State fan and lifelong bowler. After retiring, she became actively involved in the Good Samaritan Mission, serving as a volunteer, board member, and board chair.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Terrance and Susan, of Riverside; two nephews, Andrew Gearhart and his companion Miki Hara, of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Matthew Reedy and his companion Noelle Hartline, of Danville; one great-niece, Allison Reedy; and two "doggie nieces," Sadie and Sophie.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 306 Lombard Ave., Danville, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Rayvon Hilliard officiating.
In honor of Cynthia's love for Penn State football, family and friends ares encouraged to wear blue and white to her service.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in Cindy's memory may be made to Good Samaritan Mission, P.O. Box 114, Danville, PA 17821.
