Delores L. Shoemaker, 88, 106 Railroad Street, Danville, died at 8:10 p. m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for two days. She was in failing health for several years.
She was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Danville, a daughter of the late Palmer and Ida (Steffen) Mottern. She was married to Howard L. Shoemaker who preceded her in death on May 8, 1972.
She was a 1946 graduate of Danville High School.
Delores was employed at the former Westinghouse Corp., plant in Sunbury early in her life, and later worked at the Danville State Hospital as an aide, for 31 years, retiring in 1991.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and relatives at the holidays. Delores was very creative and enjoyed working with crafts and spending time with her dog, Benjie.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Shoemaker, who resided with her; one sister and brother-in-law, Ramona and Francis Mahoney, of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Mottern, and an infant, Palmer Mottern; and an infant sister, Genevieve Mottern.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, followed by interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. There will be no viewing.
Memorials in Delores' memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville.
