George's Story

George M. Roberts, 93, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born March 22, 1924, in Danville, a son of the late Mark T. Sr. and Annie (Murray) Roberts. On June 12, 1954, he married the former W. Jean Rowe and they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

George graduated from Danville High School and dental technician school. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was employed as a chemical operator for Merck and Company from 1951 until his retirement in 1986. He served on the Danville Area School District Board of Directors for 20 years and had served as president. He also served as president of the Columbia-Montour School District Board of Directors which included the groundbreaking ceremony.
He was a member of the former Mausdale United Church of Christ. His other memberships include the Danville-Mahoning Lodge 224 F&AM, the Caldwell Consistory, the Danville Elks, the Danville Moose, the American Legion Post 44, Northumberland, the East End, Washies and Continental Fire companies, and a member of 06 Rod and Gun Club in Morris.
George enjoyed golf and going on golfing trips with his friends. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, as well as flower and vegetable gardening. Above all, George was a hardworking and devoted husband, father, and father-in-law who cared deeply for his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bryan Murray Roberts, of Danville and Bradley Mark Roberts and his fiancé Beth, of Limestoneville; one daughter, Lori Jean Roberts Swank and her husband Rick, of Catawissa; one grandson, Colton Roberts Swank; one granddaughter, Kelsey Shue and her husband Jonathan, of York; and one great-granddaughter, Harper Ann Shue.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
