Nancy's Story

Nancy Ann Leighow, 71, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at her residence.
She was born June 6, 1946, in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Minor and Dorothy (Smith) Leighow.

Nancy was a 1964 graduate of Danville High School.
She was employed by the United States Federal Government in Washington, D.C. in Human Resources for 33 years, retiring in 1999.
She was an active member of Pine Street Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served on the Council, Property Committee and faithfully volunteered with numerous functions and activities. Nancy was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Geisinger Hospice and in the Gift Shop at the Geisinger Medical Center.
Nancy greatly enjoyed walking Molly, her faithful companion of 11 years. Nancy will be lovingly remembered as the "Big Sister" who was the glue that kept the family together. She left a legacy of love and kindness and will be remembered for her never-ending love for her brothers and each one in her family who will miss her greatly.

She is survived by five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Richard A. Leighow, of Woodbridge, Va., John A. and Carla Leighow, Dennis A. and Ellen Leighow, David M. Leighow, and Glen M. and Tina Leighow, all of Danville; seven nieces, Ann, Amanda, Alyssa, Sarah, Diana, Emily and Marin; and three nephews, Bill, David and Scott.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Nancy's life at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pine Street Evangelical Church, 407 Pine St., Danville, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lois Martin officiating. Friends will be received from 2 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Washingtonville Lutheran Church Cemetery, Washingtonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Street Evangelical Lutheran Church.
