Richard E. Herman, 79, of Danville, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Williamsport, a son of the late Robert and Ruby (Grayson) Herman. He was raised in the Odd Fellows Orphanage in Sunbury for 10 years. In 1958, he married the former Rhoda Hickey who survives. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Richard proudly served in the Army in Vietnam, and devoted 20 years of his life to the military.
He also worked for 30 years as a truck driver, and his last position was with Joseph Delbo & Son Trucking.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the East End Fire Company.
Richard had a love of fishing for musky and walleye and taking trips to fish on Lake Ontario.
In addition to his wife, Rhoda, he is survived by three sons, Rick Herman and wife Joyce, of Florida, Russ Herman and Danielle, of Danville, and Rod Herman and fiance Cherry Hunsinger, of Danville; one daughter, Cally Kalie and husband Mike, of Orangeville; six grandchildren, Becky, Angie, Rickey, Shaun, Shane, and Adam; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tom "Yum" Herman.
Services for Richard will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brady Funeral Home Inc., Danville.
