Roger E. Payne, 85, of Mexico Road, Danville, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Susquehanna County, a son of the late Merritt H. and Ruth G. (Powers) Payne. On April 2, 1955, he married the former Esther J. Cotner and they have celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Roger was a tractor trailer truck driver for 30 years and a farmer all his working life.
He was a member of Trinity Oak Grove Lutheran Church, AARP, the Montour Antique Farm Machinery Collectors Association, the IHC Chapter #17, the Masonic Lodge 224, F&AM, Danville, and the Valley of Bloomsburg Consistory. He was a life member of the Montour Delong Fair Association and was named Outstanding Fair Ambassador in 2012.
Roger enjoyed gardening and restoring antique farm equipment.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Randy L. Payne, at home; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Michael Stevens, of Milan, Ohio; four grandchildren, Joshua, Madelyn, Emma, and Jacob Stevens; and one sister, Marie Acker, of Peckville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Frank, and Kenneth Payne; and three sisters, Theresa Burgess, Vida Bishoff, and Ruth Williams.
Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, followed by a memorial service at noon with pastors Jay I. Burkholder and Gretchen Johanson officiating. The Danville Masonic Lodge 224 will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held privately in Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Roger's memory be made to Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Suite 200, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
