Sister Mary Theresa's Story
Sister Mary Theresa Escher, S.C.C., 88, died Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Holy Family Convent, Danville.
Gertrude Escher, daughter of George and Gertrude (McCaney) Escher, was born in Philadelphia on July 21, 1928. She attended Most Blessed Sacrament School and West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' High School. Here she became acquainted with the Sisters of Christian Charity.
She entered the religious community at Mendham, N.J. on March 10, 1945. Reception of the religious habit took place on Aug. 21, 1946, followed by First Holy Vows on Aug. 21, 1948, and Final Profession on Aug. 20, 1954.
Deceased family members in addition to her parents include one sister and three brothers.
Her entire religious life was devoted to housekeeping, especially in the kitchen of several convents including Holy Family, Danville. Special note includes dedicated service at Holy Spirit Convent, Camp Hill, since 1982. Sister Mary Theresa came to Holy Family Convent in 2016.
Surviving family members include nieces and nephews.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville.
