Virginia A. "Ginger" Kane, 82, of Danville, passed away after a lengthy illness, choosing to do so peacefully in her home of 51 years with her daughters, Amy and Jennifer by her side, on Friday, March 10, 2017.
Ginger was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Margaret (Davis) and Edwin W. Aston. Upon Aston's death, Margaret married John "Scamp" Horan and he raised Ginger as his own. On Aug. 12, 1960, she married the love of her life, Jerry Kane, and they moved to Danville. They were married for 23 years before his untimely death on March 3, 1984, an event that saddened her all the remaining days of her life.
Ginger was a 1952 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and the Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia with her registered nurse designation in 1955.
Upon graduating from nursing school, Ginger became employed at Geisinger Medical Center as an RN and practiced nursing until she became a Registered Nurse Technician in radiation oncology. In her role in radiation medicine, she proudly excelled at caring for and loving her cancer patients in a very meaningful career. She retired from Geisinger in 1995.
Gingie, as many fondly called her, had a life-long love affair with cooking, reading, counted-cross stitch, horror films, laughing with her daughters, spending time with grandkids, a daily Genesee Light, winning at Wheel of Fortune, and pampering her beloved cat, Boogie.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Darryl Temmel and Jennifer and Ken Enterline, all of Danville; grandchildren Eric, Jerry and Maggie Temmel, Zac, Claire and Aimilee Beaver, Samantha, Whitney and Alyssa Enterline; one niece, Michelle Allegretto and husband Tommy, of White Haven.
Burial will be private at Fairview Cemetery and held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made on Ginger's behalf to the Danville SPCA where she found her beloved Boogie.
Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville.
