Sunbury - Bruce R. Bassett, 79, of Gravel Lane, Sunbury, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026.

Bruce was born on Jan. 14, 1946, in Sunbury, a son of the late Alvin S. and Hattie A. (Renn) Bassett. On June 14, 1964 he married the former Sharon A. Mitchell who survives.

He was a graduate of Sunbury High School and later received a degree from Williamsport Area Community College in Pipefitting.

Mr. Bassett retired after many years of service as a pipefitter/mechanic for Merck Co., Danville.

He was a life member of Klinesgrove United Methodist Church, Sunbury.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Bruce is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Brian W. Bassett of Stuart, Fla., Duane M. and Christy A. Bassett of Sunbury; grandchildren, Austin, Nicole and Liberty Bassett, James Kline III, Kate DeHart, Sarah Kovaschetz, Elizabeth Morgan and Alexis Staudt and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark C. Bassett on July 7, 2015, and sister, Sandra Kremser-Cook.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Klinesgrove United Methodist Church, 1058 Church Road, Sunbury followed by funeral services at 11 a.m with Rev. Eric Light officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
