Dora J. Jarrett, 78, of Sunbury, left Nottingham Village and her struggles with dementia for her forever home in Heaven on July 4, 2020.
She was born outside of Danville on Aug. 4, 1941, the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Steffen) Forney. After her mother's passing and when she was 2 years old, she went to live with her grandparents, James and Margaret Steffen, in Rushtown.
She graduated from Danville High School in 1959 and from Bloomsburg State Teachers' College in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree. She taught school in Pottstown for one year before returning and teaching in various Danville schools for the next 38 years.
She married Jack A. Jarrett on Aug. 22, 1964, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Dora was active in church work teaching Sunday School, working in the church library, helping at church dinners, knitting sweaters for Knit for Kids and helping at the food pantry. She loved to travel and she and Jack were able to visit most of the lower 48 states. They always visited New England in the fall.
She loved antique shows, public sales, flea markets and yard sales.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, life member of the Northumberland County Historical Society and AARP.
She is survived by her husband.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations in Dora's memory may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, ASPCA or Mostly Mutts.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
