Gerald Max Von Blohn Jr., 89, of Danville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


He was born March 27, 1935, in Danville, a son of the late Gerald Max Sr. and Beatrice R. (Shade) Von Blohn. Max graduated from Danville Area High School in 1952.


He served his country with honor in the United States Army Pennsylvania National Guard as Sergeant from November of 1954 to April of 1965.


Max was married to the late Dorothy C. (Raup) Von Blohn for 70 years. They were married Aug. 16, 1952.


He was a member of Danville American Legion Post 40, Danville Moose where he was a past governor twice, former Danville Borough 2nd ward Councilman, and on the Danville Sewer and Water Authority Board. Max was also a member of the Washington Fire & Hose Company No. 2 (Washies), Old Guard at TRW, Continental Fire Company, United Auto Workers, Catawissa Boat Club, and Danville Shuffleboard League.


An avid NASCAR fan, Max found thrill and excitement in watching the races. His enthusiasm for racing was matched only by his deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He spent hours fishing and camping. He tended to his garden with love and care, creating a haven of beauty that reflected his vibrant spirit. However, Max's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and his furry canine companion, JJ. He cherished every moment with his children and grandchildren, serving as a steadfast source of love and wisdom. His laughter and stories will be deeply missed, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of all who knew him.


Max is survived by four children, Gerry VonBlohn III of Elysburg, Jeff Von Blohn (Julie) of Danville, Tom Von Blohn (Deb) of Danville, and Sue Chrysler of Danville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Max is also survived by two brothers, David Von Blohn and his wife of Texas and Dean Von Blohn and his wife of Danville, as well as several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Von Blohn; one daughter-in-law, Charlene Von Blohn; and one son-in-law, Scott Chrysler; as well as three sisters, Ruth Raup, Esther Hettinger, and Lois Gabriel; and one brother, Tom Kline.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Max's Life to be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, with Rev. Michael Jarret officiating. Friends will be received from 4 to 5:45 p.m.


Burial will be private in Columbia Hill Cemetery, Danville.
