Danville - John A. Nied, 84, of Danville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025. John was born in Danville on Oct. 3, 1940, a son of the late Joseph A. and Isabelle (Klose) Nied.

John attended primary school at St. Joseph School, Danville. He was a 1958 graduate of

Danville High School and a 1962 graduate of Millersville University with a degree in Library

Science. John later obtained a Master's degree in Library Science from Villanova University.

After Millersville University, John returned home and began working for the Danville Area

School District. He was the librarian at the Danville junior high school for several years, and then spent the remainder of his 40-year teaching career at the senior high school. Many generations of Danville students will remember his booming voice stating that he needed "more brain waves, less sound waves" in his library.

John was a sports enthusiast. He coached intramural youth football in Danville for many years, umpired Little League baseball, and enjoyed volunteering at track and field meets. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Penn State football and cheered on the Yankees. He loved watching his sons play football in high school and college and more recently loved following his grandkids' athletic exploits.

John was a member of the Danville Elks lodge and served as Exalted Ruler for a time.

He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Danville.

Fifty-six years ago, John married his beloved wife, the former Barbara Kolet. Together they

built a beautiful life, raising four sons and they have 12 grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara Nied; sons, John Nied and his wife, Heather currently

residing in Manheim, Andrew Nied and his wife, Molly currently residing in Danville, Matt Nied and his wife, Jennifer currently residing in Tobyhanna, and Mark Nied and his wife, Kimberly residing in Lehighton; his brother, Joe Nied and his wife Marion of Traverse City, Michigan; and his grandchildren, Cooper, Jaxon, Elliott, Jill, Sam, Isabelle, Emily, A.J., Rosie, Victoria, Andrew and Abigail.

Friends and family are invited to a Visitation on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Hubert's Chapel, within St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 68 Center Street, Danville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. with Fr. Timothy Marcoe as Celebrant. A private Burial with family will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 172 All Saints Road, Elysburg.
