Richard F. "Dick" Shultz, 82, of West Hemlock Township, Danville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1942, in his home where he has resided all his life, Danville, the son of the late Reginald and Marietta (Mowery) Shultz.

Dick graduated from Danville Area High School in 1962 then went on to barber school in Harrisburg.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army from March 1964 to March 1966 during the Vietnam War. His bravery and commitment to duty were recognized with two Purple Hearts and a Vietnam Service Medal, testaments to his valor in the face of adversity.

Dick was married to his devoted wife, Kathie (Henrie) Shultz for 57 years. They were married on Feb. 25, 1967.

He was employed as a barber at the Danville State Hospital from where he retired in 1999. Dick took great pride in working on the family farm that was established in 1858, Century Acres.

He was a member of Hendrickson United Methodist Church where he served as chairperson of the board. Dick also was a member of the Danville-Mahoning Masonic Lodge No. 224, American Legion Post 40, and the Danville VFW. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania and Chillisquaque Coon Hunters Club.

Dick served his community for numerous years with the Montour County Conservation District, SEDA-COG, and Montour Delong Fair Association member. His commitment to public service included many years as a West Hemlock Township Supervisor and as a passionate 4-H leader, impacting the lives of countless young individuals. Dick received the Keystone Degree in the FFA and also volunteered at the Danville State Hospital.

Dick's passions were many, and he found joy in pursuits such as working on the family farm, coon hunting, mule jumping, and spending time with his cherished dogs, Bailey No. 1 and Bailey No. 2. He often rode his beloved mules in parades and participated in mule jumping competitions at county fairs, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. However, his greatest pride and joy came from his grandchildren, Ian and Iris, whom he adored and always looked forward to visiting in Montana.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Renee Tworkoski and her husband Brian of Danville; and one son, Bradley Shultz of Pray, Montana; as well as two loving grandchildren, whom he adored, Ian Metzer and Iris Shultz. Dick is also survived by two brothers, Dale Shultz and Larue Shultz, both of Danville; as well as one sister, Patricia Dill and her husband Joseph of Bloomsburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Shultz and Donald Shultz; as well as two sisters, Regetta Williams and Gloria Mottern.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Richard's Life to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Hendrickson Zion United Methodist Church, 380 Cameltown Hill Road, Danville, with Pastor Greg Molter and Pastor Dwayne Nichols officiating. Friends will be received from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard and the United States Army Honor Guard.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
